Term 1 Reflection

Reflecting back on term 1 it's been a great term. First of all, I've settled into the roll of being a year eight well and accepted the responsibilities that come with becoming a year eight. Secondly, I'm also really enjoying reading and writing in different genre like reports and poems. Another great part of the term is the camp we went on two weeks ago to Wellington. Also this term, there were our inter house sports, the summer games, which our four houses Waikato, Waipa, Mangapiko and Puniu all gave teams for sports that included, table tennis, touch rugby, softball, danish rounders, indoor bowls, outdoor bowls and many more. This term we had first round of auditions for production which will continue for all those with callbacks during the holidays. This term has been very busy and term 2 will surely be busier. Overall this year if it is anything like this term will be great.

Term 1 Wellington Camp

Our Wellington camp was great. There were quite a few places we went to in a week which included Weta Workshops, Capital E's Media lab and ONTV studios, Te Papa, Parliament, snorkeling, Zealandia and quite a few more. I learnt a lot from this experience especially about Weta Workshops, Capital E and Parliament. I learnt a lot about the process of creating props and costumes for a movie and saw some of the final costumes and props that were in many movies that included District 9, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, King Kong and many more. I also learnt that to create some of the monsters, aliens and creature are based of many parts of animals and mythical creatures. In parliament I saw the debating chamber and learnt quite a lot on how laws are passed and how debates are structured. I also met Andrew Little. At Capital E's Media lab I learnt how to create basic android apps and later at ONTV we created a video.

Term 1 Week 6 & 7

Week 6 & 7 was interesting to say the least. Throughout the two weeks a group of students that include me have been using a reading site called Commonlit for reading. Commonlit is a reading site where your teacher sets you readings/assignments and you must complete them. There has been a theme to these readings which was the Holocaust. We have been taking notes on this topic to write a report. These notes include Why it happened, where it happened, who was involved, when it happened and a few extra notes. In maths we learnt how to use standard and scientific form as well as revising a lot of the information that we forgot. In writing we all revised comma placement, fanboys, awubis words and other punctuation and grammatical errors.

Term 1 Week 5

Last week was a busy week full of testing and work that includes, PAT grammar,asttle reading and a few more that I can't remember. In fabric tech we are continuing our jerseys which some people have already finished. In maths some of us learnt about subtraction algorithms which I had to re-learn due to me rushing through my maths test and making dumb mistakes. In English the draft of my explanation is finished and now waiting to be published. Because this week has been so busy, I know for sure that this week will have a lot more work and will be even busier.

term 1 week four

Week four was interesting. We had approximately four tests including PAT maths, Asttle reading, PAT vocabulary and a couple more these tests taught me that you need to concentrate and strive for excellence. we also started our maths work to improve on estimation, rounding, place value etc. We are also continuing on our sweatshirts in tech arts a few people need to catch up as they have started late or have been away. The year sevens are getting used to the new school life at TAI. In maths we learnt about place value as I had made some dumb mistakes in our entry test. we also learnt about rounding which we had learnt the year earlier just like the rest but I had probably made some dumb mistakes. Estimation was a similar story. This week we began an explanation on one of the wonders of the the world. I have chosen the temple of Artemis at Ephesus. We also found out who were the house captains an class Councillors.
My overall summary of week four is that is was a busy and exciting week.

Term One Week Three

Week three was an interesting week. A great start to the year though if you ask me. our first test was asttle writing, which went pretty well in my opinion. I applied for House Captain and Class Councillor but didn't manage to get either position. 

In tech arts we are designing and sewing jerseys for ourselves.  by the time of writing this i have managed to sew a straight seam, hem a piece of fabric, design an applique, design the outline of the jersey and cut out the pieces of the fabric. 

I've really enjoyed the first three weeks of school even though I haven't gotten into rockband or gotten any leadership roles.
